The Art of Stamping from author and jeweler Matthieu Cheminée delves into the near universal technique of stamping, an art form found in every culture with a metalworking tradition. For his second book, Cheminée provides not only a thorough education as to the tools and materials needed for stamping, but also showcases the rich cultural history of this centuries-old technique through interviews with stamping artists from around the world. The core of the book consists of step-by-step descriptions for more than three dozen specific stamps, each presented with photographs illustrating the necessary steps. Another chapter highlights how several stamps can be used together to create intricate patterns. Artist profiles and a photographic archive of more than 300 historic stamps collected from jewelers across the globe finish out this thoughtful volume on an ancient technique that continues to inspire.

Three-time winner of the Saul Bell Design Award and cofounder of The Toolbox Initiative, Paris-born Matthieu Cheminée gained his knowledge of ancient, traditional jewelry-making and metalworking techniques from the masters to be found in every corner of the world, from Taos, New Mexico, to Mali, West Africa.
