Fretz® HMR-102 Silversmith Wide Raising Hammer, 7 oz.

This Fretz® Silversmith wide raising hammer features two rectangular faces that are designed to be used with stakes to create concave forms without thinning the metal—perfect for small sculptures and hollowware. The hammer is applied to the outside of the metal, forcing it onto the stake or other form. The hammer shapes the metal, leaving it relatively smooth (as compared to pieces raised with narrow cross-peen hammers). Silversmith hammers are jeweler's hammers, sized up for use with heavier metal gauges, hollowware and other larger pieces where a heavier hammer is needed to form metal into a concave block of wood or a sandbag.

Designed by master metalsmith Bill Fretz, this hammer is built for toughness and durability, and delivers all the features of a Fretz® hammer. The face size, head as well as the weight, length and pistol-grip end of the handle are all designed to Fretz’s specifications for balance, control and precision. The handle is made of Padauk wood, known for its strength, stability and beauty, and is oil-finished; it's specially shaped to give you a light touch, and the thin neck flexes slightly as you hammer for ultimate comfort. The head is cast from 420-grade stainless steel and tool hardened to 50 HRC for maximum durability and effectiveness.
