While we know how busy everyone will be at Internet Retailer Conference and Exhibition (IRCE) – be sure to attend our VIP party and stop by our booth #248 to learn more about the benefits of website optimization – we hope you will have time to check out our beautiful, Windy City while you are here in Chicago. If you have a few moments between events at the show, here’s where you should spend them:
Hot spots near McCormick Place
The Bean at Millenium Park is a public sculpture officially named “Cloud Gate,” but when you see it, you’ll understand why it’s known by its nickname.
The Modern Wing at the Art Institute of Chicago holds one of the world’s greatest collections of modern and contemporary art.
Navy Pier bills itself as Chicago’s playground, and it lives up to its own marketing. Rides, restaurants and shops cover the pier. You’ll also get access to a great view of the city from the top of the pier’s Ferris wheel.
In describing the Chicago River Architecture Tour, the Chicago Reader says, “If you’ve only got 90 minutes in Chicago, or 90 minutes to live…this is where you want to spend them.” Wow. Could there be a stronger endorsement than that?
The Magnificent Mile: Magnificent architecture, magnificent restaurants, truly magnificent shopping. Don’t forget your credit card when you hit this stretch of Michigan Avenue.
The Skydeck at the top of the Sears Tower (now Willis tower) will give you a 40- or 50-mile view. And possibly vertigo.
A short distance away:
Lincoln Park is worth checking out if you’re willing to travel a bit farther from the IRCE site. The park offers gardens, a zoo, the Lincoln Park Conservatory and a nature museum.
Food and drink:
Province: This is an American restaurant with cuisine inspired by Central and South America and Spain. Province incorporates green building materials and equipment into its setting and features farm-to-table cuisine.
The Publican: This is a new beer-focused restaurant with an eclectic menu inspired by simple farmhouse fare in a space evocative of a European beer hall.
Morton’s: “The best steakhouse anywhere.” Need we say more?
N9ne: This is a contemporary steakhouse in a pretty glitzy atmosphere.
Topolobampo and Frontera Grill are owned by celebrity check Rick Bayless and feature Mexican and Southwestern cuisine.
Rebar at Trump Tower is a great spot if you’re looking for liquid refreshment rather than food. This chic lounge offers gorgeous views of the Chicago River and Michigan Avenue Bridge.
